stupid years
by Thomas Freyer / Direction: Tilmann Köhler / Gastspiel Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar
Wolfgang and Regine, together with their two kids, live in a small town in East Germany. Despite a brief separation and their different attitudes towards real socialism, they love each other and stay together (again and again). So their lives go on, until the family has to find their bearings in a new world after the fall of the iron curtain. How do you start a new life if everything that you were used to and that was familiar, everything that meant safety and normality is no longer there? In the end, an aging Regine finds herself next to Wolfgang and wonders: »Do we really make the best of it? Wolfgang and me. Times flies. Half a life has gone by. Is it the best possible life?« And while Wolfgang is slowly losing his memory, Regine does some soul searching and starts to remember. Born and raised in Gera, Thomas Freyer continues his research into the legacy of East Germany with this family saga.
