Workshop: Antirassismus-Crashkurs
With Diane J. Pitzer from the Meltingpot Collective
Theaterplatz
Asian people have been part of society in Germany and Europe for centuries - and at the same time have repeatedly been the target of racist attributions, exclusion and violence. So-called anti-asian racism often manifests itself subtly: in exoticization, stereotypes (»hardworking«, »adapted«, »quiet«) or in the constant attribution of others (»Where are you really from? «). Since the coronavirus pandemic at the latest, however, open hostility and attacks have also become more visible.
Using this year's guest country of the Heidelberg Stückemarkt, China, as an opportunity, we will explore the historical and current dimensions of anti-asian racism in this workshop. Using examples from the media, everyday life and institutions, we will ask: What images shape our thoughts? How does anti-asian racism affect our everyday life? What can solidarity-based action look like in concrete terms?
The workshop offers a space for input, reflection and exchange. It is aimed at anyone who wants to engage with (anti-asian) racism - whether out of personal, political or professional interest.
