Theatre from China: Workshop discussion on the Heidelberger Stückemarkt
The topic of the workshop discussion is contemporary theatre in China on the occasion of this year's guest country of the 42nd Heidelberg Stückemarkt.
In addition to an overview of the theatre scene in the Sinophone world, the panellists will present the Stückemarkt's guest performance programme and the three plays invited to the competition. »The True Story of Ah Q« by the NEW YOUTH GROUP from Beijing, »The Story of the Peach Blossom Fan Retold« by the Routine Poems Institute and the family epic »A Good Year (Act 1)« by author Hongchang XU will be performed at the Heidelberg Stückemarkt on the guest country weekend, 3 and 4 May 2025.
This will be followed by a discussion on the special features of translation for and in the theatre. The event will conclude with a (staged) reading from the documentary novel ‘Great River, Great Sea’ by Lung Ying-Tai, which Berlin-based director Cao Kefei (*1964 in Shanghai) will stage for the Käte Hamburger Centre for Apocalyptic and Post-Apocalyptic Studies at Heidelberg University.
The workshop discussion will take place at the Centre for Asian and Transcultural Studies, Voßstraße 2, Building 4130 in Heidelberg-Bergheim. Admission is free.
