If the Widow Wishes to Be Addressed She Puts the Watering Can on the Grave with the Spout Facing Forward

based on the short stories by Saša Stanišić

Theatre
Zwinger 1
Adapted for the stage by Hannah Frauenrath
[recommended for ages 16 and up]

Sometimes we’re afraid of having hesitated to long at the crossroads of life and having missed out. That is how four friends feel in the mid-90s, sitting in Heidelberg’s vineyards and brooding about the future. Fatih comes up with a groundbreaking idea: »How great would it be to have a rehearsal room for life? You go in and try out 10 minutes of the future. Just like trying on shoes, only with fate.«

In Saša Stanišić’s story, Fatih’s invention becomes reality and anyone can use the »fitting room for the future«: Dilek, who works as a cleaner, decides to take her life in her own hands. The widow Gisel longs for new acquaintances and places the watering can on the grave accordingly.

After the premiere of »Blaupause« (Blueprint), director Hanna Frauenrath celebrates her second performance in Heidelberg, dedicating it to Stanišić’s stories about the wonderful detours of life.
