Clytemnestra has taken over power in the ancient city of Mycenae. To take revenge for the death of her daughter Iphigenia, she kills her husband Agamemnon after his return from the Trojan war. Iphigenia was sacrificed by Agamemnon on the journey to Troy to ensure »favourable winds«. His brother Menelaos’ honour was set to be restored there, supported by Achill and heroes. Clytemnestra together with Phryne, a former hetaira who was captured, tries to introduce an alternative female version of power. But her second daughter Electra sides with her dead father.
»We Are Family«, a play set to overwrite Antiquity, was created in 2024 and commissioned by Schauspiel Köln. Tine Rahel Völcker has rewritten the ending for the performance at Theater und Orchester Heidelberg, which will be premiered under the direction of Jana Vetten.
The production of the decorative parts is carried out in the workshops of the Theater und Orchester Heidelberg.
