Because of his large nose, Cyrano doesn’t dare tell Roxane that he is in love with her. As she’s in love with someone else, Cyrano tells the beautiful but ineloquent rival what to say and writes his love letters for him. A situation that is bound to end in disaster?

Maxim Gorky is said to have proclaimed: »Live like Cyrano de Bergerac.« Go through life without compromise, brave and in love! Know how to fence and write – and do both at the same time! Edmond Rostand made this dream come true for himself. In 1897, he used the then rather outmoded form of romantic comedy to give centre stage to a nearly forgotten adventurer and Baroque poet by the name of Savinien Cyrano de Bergerac (1619 – 1655). The play would become the biggest hit in French theatres. His hero unites the roughest of opposites: a victorious sword, witty monologues and a shy soul.
