in a version by Natascha Kalmbach / Inter-sectional production by Dance Theatre Heidelberg and Young Theatre

As soon as the duckling hatches from its egg, everyone knows: This duck is different. It looks unusual, it’s clumsy and awkward. Its siblings make fun of it and reckon it just doesn’t fit in! Dejected, the little duckling runs away. From now on, it’s making its own way in the world, looking for a place where it fits in.

Hans Christian Andersen’s literary fairy tale from 1843 is a profound story about exclusion and being an outsider. In this performance, actors and actresses as well as dancers stage the experiences and feelings of the little duckling in a moving and unique retelling of this story about loneliness, belonging and self-acceptance.
