BEEEEEEEEEthoven! Heidelberg played all of his symphonies spread over two seasons. His ninth symphony will mark the symphonic highpoint of this journey through the sound cosmos of an exceptional artist. When Beethoven’s ninth symphony premiered at Wiener Theater am Kärntnertor on 7 May 1824, all of Vienna is enchanted by Gioachino Rossini’s playful operas. By now, Beethoven is completely deaf, a condition he described in a letter to his »immortal beloved« in 1812. With his last complete symphony, Beethoven has created an oeuvre that breaks down the limits of instrumental music and opens up a space for vocal music like Friedrich Schiller’s popular »Ode to Joy«.
