Hiob
1st Bachchor Concert / Carl Loewe: »Hiob«
Peterskirche
A bet between the devil and God: The devil says Hiob will turn away from God if he experiences suffering. But, contrary to the devil’s predictions, Hiob does not abandon his faith. Carl Loewe transposes this story into a Baroque oratorio, modernising it by writing it in a ballad style. His creation contains emotional passages with expressive melodies as well as arias reminiscent of operas in their coloratura. Loewe’s oratorio »Hiob« was created in Stettin in 1848 and long thought to be lost.
As the new musical director of Heidelberger Bachchor, this more than worthwhile new discovery will be Thomas Gropper’s introduction to the audience.
