It’s the early hours of the morning in Mannheim. Everything is prepared for Bertha Benz’ journey. Quietly she sneaks out of bed so as not to wake her husband Carl. She tells her two sons Eugen and Richard to bring the tools, because they’re going out, on the road. She’s determined to introduce these horseless carriages to the wider public. To do so, she must face a lot of dangers. An exploded cooler, an empty tank and a lot of self-doubts. Will the three of them safely reach Pforzheim by the evening and make the first journey with an automobile on an open road?

We travel back to the year 1888 and meet a young woman who will go down in history as the first woman to drive an automobile. Come along on this exciting trip organised by Philharmonisches Orchester Heidelberg, directed by Dietger Holm.
