Song Soiree »From the shadows into the light«

Songs of the beginning and the end

Musical Theatre
Alter Saal

Mezzo-soprano Zlata Khershberg-Reith performs a song recital that covers the broad spectrum of the genre and has a very personal flavour. From an excerpt from Robert Schumann's »Frauenliebe und -leben« to songs by Kurt Weill and the American composer Aaron Copland, Mieczysław Weinberg and repertoire from her native Russia - songs by Tchaikovsky and Mussorgsky - the singer, who has been part of the Heidelberg ensemble since 2020 and previously lived in Israel for many years, spans the great arc between life and farewell, at the end of which the spark of hope flashes on the horizon. She is accompanied on the piano by the experienced accompanist Gábor Bartinai.

Few other genres represent individual artistic expression better than the art song. Members of the opera ensemble invite audiences to the Alter Saal to discover the many different facets of the art of songs from classic to modern, showing this popular genre’s diversity. Every evening promises a unique musical experience, centering on our singers as well as the musical sophistication of art songs.
