On narratives, misunderstandings and new spaces for dialogue with Saba-Nur Cheema

Zwinger 1

There is a lot of talk about Muslims and Islam in Germany – but the debates tend to be polarised. Questions about religion, culture and origin are often mixed together, making it difficult for nuanced perspectives to come through. The boundaries between criticism of religious practices and Islamophobia are blurred, contributing to a distorted image and the normalisation of anti-Muslim sentiment. Journalist Saba-Nur Cheema has been examining these developments for many years. On the zwinger x stage, she highlights social challenges, shows how certain narratives and misunderstandings arise, and opens up new ways to engage in a nuanced and constructive dialogue about Muslim life. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion over tea, moderated by religious scholar and cultural anthropologist Leyla Jagiella. The event is being held in cooperation with the Muslim Academy Heidelberg.
