zwinger x unsichtbar
Guest performance by the Mütterkünste collective, followed by a panel discussion on motherhood and power
Zwinger 1
At the »UnsichtBar«, artists become mothers or mothers become artists: the simultaneity of private and professional life, of caregiving and career, becomes entangled in a challenging reality, and little by little the boundaries between these two supposedly parallel worlds become blurred. The resulting pressure, which the artists face together with fighting spirit and dedication, gives rise to an utopia of solidarity that shows and demands how things could be: how motherhood, work, and art do not conflict with each other, but can inspire and strengthen each other.
With its interdisciplinary performance »UnsichtBar« (Invisible), the collective Mütterkünste (Mother Arts) puts the spotlight on the compatibility of motherhood and career in the cultural sector. The six artists, who are all mothers themselves, are calling for more visibility for this topic—even beyond the realm of culture.
Participating artists: Miriam Lemdjadi, Laura Albrecht, Lydia Eller, Rica Lata Matthes
The performance will be followed by a panel discussion with guests on the topic of motherhood and power.
Collective Mütterkünste
The interdisciplinary collective Mütterkünste was founded in 2020 and has been working on socially relevant topics ever since. It uses motherhood as a resource and combines it with artistic forms of expression and scientific questions. In doing so, the collective always follows the principle of constructiveness, i.e., the goal of not only diagnosing, but design utopias and develop socio-ecological perspectives. The seven artists and mothers have developed a solidarity-based working model that pools their respective resources in jointly negotiated part-time and full-time models in order to enable the compatibility of motherhood and artistic creation.
