Rotting Moon
by Anaïs Clerc / Direction: Simon Friedl / Münchner Volkstheater
Two women work in a butcher’s shop. There, the two castaways are left to their own devices. Even though they like to dish it out during their rough work, they are there for one another. Making funny sandwiches offers distraction and a chance to get to know each other. It seems like it was inevitable for them to end up here. One is an unsuccessful actress and the other a ticket inspector addicted to gambling. Their longings meet in the moon: Luna is the name of the unborn child of the one, whilst the other is certain that next time the Big Moon Joker will finally bring profit. As this has never happened, she has a criminal record due to unpaid debts and other offences. The only job she could manage to find is in the butcher’s shop. However, are the shady owners honest with her or is she merely a means to an end on their path to power?
Anaïs Clerc has written a play about friendship, empathy and its limits. With humour and love, she portrays characters who fall through the cracks of society, illustrating the danger of ending up in the wrong hands whilst searching for support.
The world premiere of »Rotting Moon« (faulender Mond) took place in 2024 at Stadttheater Gießen.
