Late Night Shop Paradise
by Juliane Hendes / Direction: Mirko Böttcher / Neue Bühne Senftenberg
In this play, the bigger picture begins on a small scale: in a place that politics apparently seems to have long since forgotten, in a neighbourhood that so many are gradually leaving, where the »Paradies« late night shop remains one of the few places where people gather.
There’s Andi, the late night shop’s owner: he’s the one who stays. Around him: people who come and go, and those who only turn up once. Andi provides them with everything a late night shop has to offer, but above all with a willing ear for their worries and stories. Take Klara, for example, who works in care, or Martin, who drifts from job to job. Then there’s Theo, the philogynous postman who dreams his way out of loneliness, and Rosi, the recovering alcoholic. Until a letter from the landlord arrives, questioning Andi’s existence.
Anyone who wants to understand who sustains our society and what keeps it together, who has questions about our times, should, to quote Andi, »come and sit down here in this shop«.
