Easy Singing
by Nele Stuhler / Direction: FX Mayr / Deutsches Theater Berlin in cooperation with RambaZamba Theater Berlin
What does it mean to understand or not to understand something? What language is needed for understanding? And what happens when precisely this attempt to understand, to misunderstand, itself becomes the subject of an evening of theater? Author Nele Stuhler and director FX Mayr, together with actors from the DT and the inclusive RambaZamba Theater, embark on a poetic journey of exploration: into the inner workings of speaking, writing and productive misunderstanding.
»Easy Singing« is a theater text that does not pretend to know everything, but consciously locates itself in not-knowing. It finds its material in language itself and at the same time questions it. Nele Stuhler also worked with elements of easy language without adopting them one-to-one. Instead, she used its principles. The result is a language that is both simple and complex at the same time. A language that is foreign to everyone and thus invites everyone equally to approach it. A production about language, about its power and its limits. About what seems understandable; and what eludes us the next moment. It rearranges terms, asks questions instead of giving answers. A text that wants to resound, in speech, in song, in play. And which makes it possible to experience that understanding does not lie in mastering language, but in trying it together.
