The human being has lost his identity by wanting to find himself outside. In »Samsara«, Chey Jurado and Javito Mario interpret the human species in its eternal search for meaning. Atmospheric lighting and unique sounds recorded from everyday actions accompany the gestures of the body on stage.
Where my comfort begins, my freedom ends. »Raíz« thematizes our tendency to always stay in the same place. I take in vices to have an identity; Don’t we all do it? Something works for me, and I feel better; it soothes the pain, then I start repeating it and repeating it until I’m found out, and I can’t hide it; now it hurts even more; maybe I should let it go and stick to repeating it again.
Chey Jurado is a dancer and choreographer focused on the constant development of movement, with an urban background and an emphasis on contemporary dance and the performing arts. Jurado has been inter spersing different ways of expressing his interest in dance. He has been a performer for internationally renowned companies, competing in breaking events and creating his works. He also has a long career as a teacher.
In »Pode Ser« Leïla Ka engages in a raw dialogue by using different choreographic languages in search an answer as to what constitutes a person. The piece illustrates the difficulty of being yourself and the contradictions within you. Her stage is like an arena where she fights with and against her body. In an indecisive struggle, she revolves around her multiple and un certain identities with astounding energy.
Coming from urban dance, Leïla Ka quickly turned towards interdisciplinary formats and developed her material by mixing genres beyond preestablished conventions and codes. After working as a dancer for Maguy Marin, she started to create her own choreographies.
