The Academy of Dance at the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts is one of Germany’s most traditional training centres for dancers and dance teachers. The classical European ballet tradition is the basis of the training. Still, the school program also includes all contemporary dance styles and improvisation. It continuously invites international guest teachers and offers workshops, lectures, and master classes by neo-classical and contemporary choreographers. The motivation and impulse of the schooling is to go beyond one’s limits and discover new artistic horizons.

As part of the Tanzbiennale, the students will show the following: excerpts from the prologue of Tchaikovsky’s »Sleeping Beauty« in the choreography by Marius Petipa, rehearsed by Prof. Rosemary Helliwell; »Wasted Time«, choreographed by student Charlotte Fenn; the solo »Sogno Trascendentale«, choreographed by student Teresa Curotti; the »Polowetzer Tänzer« from Alexander Borodin’s »Fürst Igor«, choreographed by Prof. Alexander Kalibabchuk after Aniko Rekhviashvili; »Der Talisman« (Pas de deux) by Marius Petipa, rehearsed by Prof. Svetlana Kusnezova and Prof. Eric Blanc; »California Sunshine«, choreographed by Guilherme Carola; and Jon Ole Olstad’s choreography »Einklang«, funded by the Friederike-Lehrnickel Stiftung.
