1st Castle Concert: It’s Been Great!
Farewell Concert of Elias Grandy
Schlosshof
Elias Grandy says goodbye to his audience in Heidelberg with this first castle concert. After eight successful years as general music director, he will be conducting the Philharmonisches Orchester Heidelberg for the last time in works by Johannes Brahms, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Richard Strauss and Maurice Ravel.
The premiere of »Variations on a Theme by Haydn« was Brahms’ first orchestra variation, which marked a turning point in his symphonic oeuvre and was an inspiration for many other composers. With opera music like the finale of the second act of Mozart’s »Le nozze di Figaro« and Strauss’ »Rosenkavalier Suite« the concert proposes music that was regularly played at the Theater und Orchester Heidelberg under Elias Grandy’s musical direction. »La Valse« by Maurice Ravel is a waltz of brilliant splendour that captivates its audience until the last note.
An intense artistic period is drawing to a close – it’s been great!
