Tyll
after a novel by Daniel Kehlmann
Zwinger 1
[recommended for ages 15 and up]
Tyll Ulenspiegel, fool, jester and agitator, is caught up in the chaos of the Thirty Years' War. He witnesses bloody battles, experiences hunger, poverty, and religious fanaticism, encounters kings and queens, monks and peasants, writers and dragon experts.
Daniel Kehlmann's »Tyll« pictures an era in the form of baroque global theatre, the multilayered story of a war that still forms part of our collective consciousness as a great catastrophe of humanity. In the thick of it are the Winter King Friedrich V and his winter queen, Elisabeth Stuart, for whom Tyll acts as some-time court jester. This ties the story most intimately to Heidelberg Castle.
This production is accompanied by a programme from the Arts & Education team.
