Festive Opera Gala

Musical Theatre
Alter Saal
With music by Carl Maria von Weber, Albert Lortzing, Heinrich Marschner, Otto Nicolai, Antonín Dvořák, Bedřich Smetana, Jules Massenet, Charles Gounod, Georges Bizet, Giuseppe Verdi and Gaetano Donizetti

Thinkers, poets and musicians made Heidelberg the city of Romanticism. In music history, this term is inseparably linked with names such as Robert Schumann and Franz Schubert for the art song and Heinrich Marschner, Albert Lortzing or Carl Maria von Weber for the opera. The soloists of the music theatre ensemble, the opera choir and the Philharmonic Orchestra present how Romanticism sounds in the genre of opera, even beyond our national borders, and create a comprehensive portrait of the epoch in a balanced mixture of well-known melodies and rarities worth discovering - a treat for all opera lovers!
