Edmond Dantès, a simple sailor from modest circumstances, is arrested on his wedding day and imprisoned without a trial in the infamous Château d’If, located on a rock island off the coast of Marseille. After 14 years of imprisonment, he manages to flee, and after another ten years of preparation, he plans to revenge himself on the perpetrators. In the meantime, his opponents have reached important positions as banker, baron and senior prosecutor and belong to Paris’ high society. But Edmond Dantès is not who he was either. He now appears as the mysterious Count of Monte Christo.

In 1845/46, shortly after »The Three Musketeers«, French writer Alexandre Dumas published »The Count of Monte Christo« as a sequel in 18 volumes, which became his biggest success and is considered the quintessential adventure novel, even today. An exciting and touching story about love and money, justice and injustice, power and revenge.
