5th Philharmonic Concert

Composer Kathrin A. Denner will receive the Heidelberger Künstlerinnenpreis 2024. She studied composing with Theo Brandmüller, Wolfgang Rihm and Johannes Schöllhorn. Having received a grant from Villa Massimo (Deutsche Akademie Rom), she created »Aerify«, a work for orchestra and solo trumpet, set to premiere with trumpet player Jeroen Berwaerts.

For the last three decades of his life Jean Sibelius remained silent. Prior to that period, he dedicated his time to fairy tales and myths. The tone poem “Tapiola” would become the late high point of his creative period between Romanticism and Modernity.

Like Jean Sibelius, Antonín Dvořák’s son in law, Josef Suk, who would have celebrated his 150th birthday in 2024, takes his inspiration from fairy tales. »Radúz and Mahulen« was a resounding success and introduced Suk to a broader audience. Based on the stage music surrounding the gorgeous Prince Radúz, he would later compose the fantastically romantic suite for orchestra.
