6th Philharmonic Concert

Born in 1977 in Reykjavík, composer Anna Thorvaldsdóttir writes intense, mysterious and floating music. »Metacosmos« was written in 2017 and is a riveting tone poem for large orchestra, fascinating with its delicate soundscapes. Anna Thorvaldsdóttir works with elementary harmonic structures and combines them with notes of an ethereal quality, taking us along on a journey to sounds that seem out of this world.

Anton Bruckner’s 9th symphony shares this aura of the metaphysical, the beyond. He had planned to dedicate it »to the beloved God«. He must have known it would be his last. In 1877, he started work on this monumental oeuvre. While it was never completed, his symphony in three movements still seems like a powerful entity, not least owing to the tremendous adagio in the third movement: It represents a counterpart to the monumental first movement with its expressive power and density. Bruckner himself considered this third movement to be the most beautiful he ever wrote.
