50 years of Chamber Concerts

Anniversary celebration weekend

The 50th anniversary of chamber concerts featuring members of the Philharmonisches Orchester Heidelberg will be celebrated over an entire weekend! The festival of virtuoso and intimate sounds will open with a ceremony in the town hall, followed by a public gala concert in the Palais Prinz Carl. On the second day of the festival, two chamber concerts will take place in the Alter Saal at the theatre.

The series of chamber concerts featuring orchestra members has been running since 1975, when it was still known as the »Rathauskonzerte« (Town Hall Concerts). The founding idea 50 years ago was to promote the orchestra's diverse activities beyond the theatre and throughout the city. Later, the successful series moved to the Palais Prinz Carl. Since the reopening of the new theatre in 2012, the chamber concerts have been held in the Alter Saal.

The musicians themselves design and develop the programmes in their free time; they range from original literature for string quartet or piano trio to their own arrangements of symphonic works for unusual instrumentations.

Works

From A for Carl Friedrich Abel to Z for Bernd Alois Zimmermann – to mark the anniversary, here is a list of all the works performed in the Chamber Concerts of the Philharmonisches Orchester Heidelberg between 1975 and 2025:
