From 1989 to 2024, Thierry Stöckel had a decisive influence on the Heidelberg Philharmonic Orchestra as 1st concertmaster for 35 years. Thierry Stöckel was born in Thionville, France. He studied in Metz, Paris and Brussels with René Benedetti, Agustín León-Ara and Zino Francescatti. The completion of his studies was crowned by a scholarship that he received as part of an international competition at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth (Belgium). There he received his diploma with the highest honours. He is a prizewinner of the Granada International Violin Competition and the Vierzon International Sonata Competition. Thierry Stöckel began his professional career as a solo violinist with the Dijon Chamber Orchestra, then became first concertmaster of the Orchestre Lyrique de Région Avignon-Provence and solo violinist with the Ensemble Orchestral de Marseille. He is the founder of the Festival de Musique Sacrée of Mauriac (France). Numerous recordings for France Musique, R.T.B. (Belgium), the Spanish National Radio and SWR bear witness to his extensive repertoire. He is the leader of the Heidelberg Domin-Quartett and, since July 2015, founder of the Cramer4tte, which plays on original 18th century string instruments. Thierry Stöckel has conceived, programmed and conducted the Christmas concerts at the Baroque Festival Winter in Schwetzingen for many years.
