Marc Niemann

Marc Niemann is an extremely versatile and experienced conductor whose interpretations are characterised by a balance of careful attention to detail on the one hand and a gripping approach on the other. He is General Music Director of the Stadttheater Bremerhaven and Chief Conductor of the Bremerhaven Philharmonic Orchestra.

During Marc Niemann's tenure, the Stadttheater Bremerhaven was awarded the German Federal Theatre Prize in 2015 and the Bremerhaven Philharmonic Orchestra was included in the German government's » Exzellente Orchesterlandschaft Deutschland « funding programme in 2017. In 2018, he was nominated as »Conductor of the Year« in the critics' survey conducted by the magazine »Opernwelt«. He has also been nominated as »Conductor of the Year« for OPUS KLASSIK in 2023.
Due to his intensive involvement with new music and contemporary music theatre, he has worked closely with personalities such as Detlev Glanert, Prof. Siegfried Matthus, Mauro Montalbetti and Johann Kresnik.

His discography includes the critically acclaimed cyclical recording of all Beethoven symphonies, contemporary works and the Hänssler Classics recording of the Third Symphony and the world premiere recording of the Sixth Symphony by composer Emilie Mayer, which has been nominated for the ICMA Award in 2022 and the OPUS-KLASSIK »Symphonic Recording of the Year« in 2023.

Marc Niemann is a highly sought-after conductor at national and international orchestras and festivals. In 2022 he was direttore musicale of the internationally renowned festival Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte di Montepulciano.

After training as a pianist and conductor in Hanover, Lübeck and Berlin, Marc Niemann embarked on a career as a classical conductor and was honoured with scholarships from the Oscar and Vera Ritter Foundation, the Richard Wagner Foundation and the Max Grünebaum Foundation.
