Hamburg-born baritone Yannick Debus studied singing, music theory and aural training at the Lübeck University of Music. At the same time, he received several years of private tuition in Amsterdam from the renowned Dutch singing teacher Margreet Honig. In Basel, he continued his training at the Hochschule für Musik and the Schola Cantorum, where he graduated with honours. Masterclasses with singers such as Ludovic Tézier, Thomas Hampson and Thomas Allen followed. Yannick Debus gained his first stage experience in university productions in the title roles of Mozart's Figaro and Don Giovanni. This was followed by his first engagements at the operas in Kiel and Lübeck. In 2017, he sang the role of Peter Besenbinder in Humperdinck's »Hansel and Gretel« at the Junge Oper Schloss Weikersheim. The following year, he sang the role of Guglielmo in »Così fan tutte« at the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg under the direction of Ivo Hentschel. In January 2019, Debus took on the role of Emperor Overall in Ullmann's »Der Kaiser von Atlantis« at the Basel Theatre and sang Figaro in Darius Milhaud's »La mère coupable«. This was followed by his debut at Zurich Opera House in the role of Kilian in Weber's »Freischütz«. He has been a member of Zurich Opera's International Opera Studio since the 2020/21 season. In addition to opera, Debusʼ work also focusses on lieder and concertos, making him a regular guest at major European concert halls. Highlights include his collaboration with René Jacobs and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra on a CD production of Weber's »Freischütz«. In the 2022/23 season, he appeared in Basel in the role of Raphael/Adam in Haydn's »Creation«, among others.
