Johannes Hofmann

Johannes Hofmann, born in Heilbronn in 1981, has been working as a composer and musical director for theatre, opera, radio and film productions since 2005. During his training as a media designer (image and sound) with a focus on sound technology and sound design at Bayerischer Rundfunk, he created his first compositions for film and theatre as well as sound collages. Hofmann then studied history at the Humboldt Universität in Berlin and music at the Universität der Künste, including composition with Prof. Daniel Ott and trumpet with Prof. Konradin Groth. Johannes Hofmann sings and plays piano, trumpet and electric bass in various bands in the fields of ska, punk, reggae and jazz. He is also active as a trumpet player in orchestras and as a soloist. He wrote various songs and arrangements for his ska band nebrasska and produced several CDs. He has worked with Antú Romero Nunes, Philipp Becker, Armin Petras, Ronny Jakubaschk and Franziska Autzen, among others, at the Thalia Theater Hamburg, Burgtheater Vienna, Komische Oper Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, NT Gent, Grand Opéra Génève, Schauspielhaus Zurich, Staatstheater Stuttgart, Theater Basel, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Rikstheater Sweden, for Swiss Radio, Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, Deutschlandradio Kultur and Arte. At Theater und Orchester Heidelberg, he is conceiving the music for »Minna von Barnhelm« in 2023.
