Ran Chai Bar-zvi

Ran Chai Bar-zvi was born in Jerusalem in 1989. After moving to Berlin in 2012, he studied costume and stage design at the Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee. His first works took him to the B_Tour Festival, and his lecture performance »The Gender Quiz« was also performed as part of the month of performance art. Ran Chai Bar-zvi is active as a stage and costume designer for theatre and film; he has worked for Rimini Protokoll and the Ruhrtriennale, among others, as well as at numerous German-speaking theatres. The production »Movie Star« directed by Matthias Köhler and performed at the Theater der jungen Generation Dresden was invited to the Heidelberger Stückemarkt in 2021. His video works, created in collaboration with the artists Doireann O'Malley and Michael Portnoy, were shown at the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin and at the Steirischer Herbst Festival. In 2021 Ran Chai Bar-zvi celebrated his debut as a director at Schauspiel Hannover with »Dark Room«. In 2023 he designed the stage and costumes for »Die Krise des Jungen Törleß« directed by Matthias Köhler at Schauspiel Stuttgart. At Theater und Orchester Heidelberg, Ran Chai Bar-zvi designes the stage and costumes for »Minna von Barnhelm« at the Heidelberger Schlossfestspiele in 2023.
