Mino Marani

Born in Italy in 1985, Mino Marani studied piano, composition and conducting, as well as semiotics and communication studies, in Bologna and Milan. Following his first professional engagements, he served as First Kapellmeister at Theater Koblenz and Staatstheater Braunschweig. His repertoire includes operas by Wagner, Strauss, Verdi, Puccini, Mozart and Bartók, as well as works by contemporary composers such as Peter Eötvös and Jake Heggie. Since the 2024/25 season, Mino Marani has been General Music Director of the City of Heidelberg. There he has conducted productions including Strauss's »Der Rosenkavalier«, Puccini's »Manon Lescaut«, Verdi's »Macbeth«, Janáček's »Jenůfa«, Massenet's »Werther«, and Hans Zender's »Winterreise« featuring Julian Prégardien. With the Heidelberg Philharmonic Orchestra, he also concluded the widely acclaimed BEEEEEEEEEthoven! cycle, presenting all nine Beethoven symphonies. He opens the 2026/27 season with Puccini's »Tosca« and also conducts Kaija Saariaho's »Innocence«. The centrepiece of the season is BEƎTHOVEN | THE FESTIVAL, marking the 200th anniversary of Beethoven's death, during which all nine symphonies will be performed over the course of six days. Together with Ronald Brautigam and Tianwa Yang, he will present all five of Beethoven's piano concertos as well as the Violin Concerto in a new concert series. The season is further enriched by Luciano Berio's Sinfonia in collaboration with Klangforum Heidelberg, and by Mahler's Symphony No. 4, performed as part of the Heidelberg Spring Festival alongside György Kurtág's »Stele (Grabstein für Stephan)« to mark the composer's 101st birthday. As a concert conductor, Mino Marani appears regularly with orchestras including the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, Sinfonieorchester Münster, Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock and Göttinger Symphonieorchester. In 2025, he made his debuts at Oper Köln and Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf with Rossini's »La Cenerentola«. In the 2026/27 season, he returns to Cologne with Verdi's »Rigoletto« and makes his debut at the Prague State Opera with Puccini's »La Bohème«.
