Mino Marani

Mino Marani was born in Italy in 1985, where he studied piano, chamber music, composition, conducting, semiotics and communication studies in Bologna and Milan. Mino Marani has lived in Germany since 2011, where he has worked at the theatres in Mainz, Osnabrück, Pforzheim and Koblenz. In 2022-2024 he is engaged as 1st Kapellmeister at the Staatstheater Braunschweig. Among the stage works he has conducted are Wagner's »Das Rheingold«, »Götterdämmerung« and »Der fliegende Holländer«, Verdi's »Il trovatore«, »Nabucco«, »Luisa Miller«, »Rigoletto«, Mozart's »Don Giovanni«, »Così fan tutte«, »Le nozze di Figaro«, »Die Zauberflöte« and »Die Entführung aus dem Serail« as well as modern and contemporary works such as »Dead Man Walking«, »Der goldene Drache« or »Das große Heft«. In 2017, Mino Marani held the musical direction of the opera »The Golden Dragon« by Peter Eötvös; his collaboration with the composer was followed by assistantships with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Hessischer Rundfunk and the Orchestre de Paris. In Braunschweig, Mino Marani has already conducted several contemporary works, such as »Dead Man Walking« or »Das große Heft«. Last season, Mino Marani was responsible for the acclaimed rediscovery of »Dante« by French composer Benjamin Godard at the Staatstheater Braunschweig, directed by Philipp Himmelmann. Bartóks »Blaubarts Burg«, Berlioz’ »Béatrice et Bénédict«, Puccinis »La bohème« and »Tosca«, Strauss »Salome« as well as symphony concerts with works by Brahms, Dvořák, Berio and Shostakovich are scheduled for the current season in Braunschweig. »Impressive quality« (Opernfreund), »captivating orchestral sound« (Klassikbegeister.de), »sparkling impulses and a lively rendition« (Rheinpfalz) are what the media have to say about Mino Marani, who will become General Music Director in Heidelberg from the 2024-2025 season.
