Carolin Widmann

The artistic activities of the versatile musician Carolin Widmann range from major classical concerts to works written especially for her, solo recitals, a wide range of chamber music and performances on historical instruments, which she also leads from the violin. Carolin Widmann was honoured with the Bavarian State Prize for Music in 2017 for her individuality and extraordinary musical ability. She also received the International Classical Music Award (in the category »Concert«) for her critically acclaimed recordings of the violin concertos by Mendelssohn and Schumann with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, which were released by ECM in 2016 and which Carolin Widmann conducted from the violin. As »Musician of the Year« at the International Classical Music Awards 2013, Carolin Widmann has worked with leading orchestras worldwide. Recent highlights include Carolin Widmann's debuts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra under Esa Pekka Salonen, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra under Maxim Emelyanychev and the Munich Philharmonic. In the 2021/22 season, Carolin Widmann played two world premieres – a new violin concerto by Georg Friedrich Haas and the new violin concerto by Lisa Streich (Heidelberger Künstlerinnenpreis 2022) with the Munich Chamber Orchestra. In the 2023/24 season, Carolin Widmann will return to the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra to perform Jörg Widmann's Violin Concerto No. 2.
