Nicholas Milton

Nicholas Milton is Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra and Chief Conductor of the Klagenfurt City Theatre and the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra, as well as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, Willoughby Symphony Orchestra. Recognised for his outstanding interpretations of a wide range of opera and concerto repertoire, Nicholas Milton has established himself as one of Australia's most successful internationally active conductors. As General Music Director at the Saarländisches Staatstheater in Saarbrücken (2014-18) and as a guest conductor at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Komische Oper Berlin, the Volksoper Wien and the opera houses in Dortmund, Leipzig, Linz, Innsbruck and Sydney, among others, Nicholas Milton has conducted the most important works of musical theatre in recent seasons. Concert engagements have taken him to top orchestras in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain, Hungary, France, Spain, the Netherlands and Asia. Appointed Australia's youngest concertmaster at the age of 19, Milton began a successful career as a solo violinist and chamber musician before devoting himself exclusively to conducting. Milton completed his studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Michigan State University, Mannes College of Music and the Juilliard School of Music with a master's degree in violin, conducting, music theory and philosophy. He also holds a doctorate in music from the City University of New York. Nicholas Milton's discography includes around 60 recordings, of which an album of piano concertos by Grieg and Moszkowski with soloist Joseph Moog was nominated for a GRAMMY® in the category »Best Classical Instrumental Solo«.
