JEWS JEWS JEWS
A play by our citizens’ stage / with texts by Simoné Goldschmidt-Lechner / Stage Director: Ron Zimmering, Dor Aloni / LICHTHOF Theater Hamburg
Different story plots let the audience experience Jewish life in Hamburg as it is today, as it is imagined, as it could be. Antisemitic and philosemitic clichés are questioned and ascribed particularities of Judaism are juxtaposed with a Jewish self-conception. Inspired by Stefan Heym’s interpretation of Ahasver, the Wandering Jew, a many-voiced story unfolds. Performers and the team place themselves and their Jewish biographies in relation to the topics that are approached, reinvent themselves and reach unsuspected conclusions.
The LICHTHOF's citizens’ stage format creates one production per year. »Real people«, »experts of the everyday life« conquer the stage and work together with theatre professionals to create new plays that concern us all. Before starting rehearsals, participants commit to a research process consisting of discussions, workshops, excursions, trainings or other formats that will generate content for the plays based on their personal experience and personal story.
