¡Adelante!

Ibero-American Festival

¡Adelante! Is an international festival initiated by the Theater und Orchester Heidelberg. It is the live attempt to open the German theatre system, seek out co-operations with international and fringe theatre groups from Ibero-America and make a lasting contribution to the future of the Stadttheater.

Theater und Orchester Heidelberg first staged ¡Adelante! in February 2017 as a festival with extraordinary guest performances from ten Ibero-American countries; the event immediately developed into one of the most important European partners within the Latin American cultural landscape.

The second edition of the festival in 2020 was able to add another three countries. These new discoveries of the festival, from Bolivia, Ecuador and Venezuela, had been almost unknown in Europe, and provided a look at theatre landscapes apart from the Ibero-American heartlands of theatre. The second festival edition centred on the multinational cooperation »La flauta mágica/Die Zauberflöte«, a free interpretation following the libretto of »The Magic Flute« by Emanuel Schikaneder between Heidelberg, Chile, Mexico, Uruguay and Italy, directed by Antú Romero Nunes.

In light of the crises unfolding across the globe, international exchange has become more important than ever before. A third edition of ¡Adelante! is currently being planned for 2024.
