Alison Buchanan

Praised for her musical versatility and her luscious voice British soprano Alison Buchanan is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music in London and the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia. The critically acclaimed singer was an Adler Fellow with San Francisco Opera where she made her debut as Mimi (»La Boheme«) whilst an Adler she was invited to L. A Opera to sing Nedda in »I Pagliacci« working with Placido Domingo and Franco Zeffirelli.  Buchanan is the winner of the Kathleen Ferrier, the Luciano Pavarotti, the Washington International and the Maggie Teyte competitions. Buchanan has performed under the batons of Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Colin Davis, Donald Runnicles, Marin Alsop and David Robertson to name but a few, with orchestra’s which include the Royal Philharmonic, Philippine Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Israel Kibbutz Orchestra, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Buchanan has performed on opera and concert stages around the world including Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Wigmore Hall, New York City Opera, The Opera Company of Philadelphia, Michigan Opera, Wexford Opera, Bergen Opera, Sydney Opera House, Chicago Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera. Buchanan has toured extensively around Germany, Italy, Spain, and France singing the role of Serena in »Porgy and Bess«. A highlight last season was when the soprano was featured in episode 5 of the hit Netflix show »Queen Charlotte a Bridgerton Story« singing Dido’s Lament by Purcell.  Buchanan is the Artistic Director of Pegasus Opera Company based in London. Pegasus Opera champion artists from the African diaspora and Asia. As artistic director Buchanan has curated and performed in »Mami Wata« at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, a programme celebrating the vocal works of diverse women composers like Bushra El-Turk, Errollyn Wallen or Nkeiru Okoye.
