Christian Miedl

Christian Miedl was born in Passau and now lives in Cologne. After winning first prize at the Jugend Musiziert competition, he studied song interpretation with Wolfgang Holzmair at the Salzburg Mozarteum alongside his international business studies. His singing teachers were Kjellaug Tesaker, Salzburg, Margreet Honig, Amsterdam, Patricia McCaffrey in New York and Abbie Furmansky, Berlin. His honours include the concert prize at the Francisco Viñas Competition in Barcelona. Christian Miedl's recent engagements include, among others Henze's »Prinz von Homburg«, Malaspina in Sciarrino's »Lucie mie traditrici« and Peter Besenbinder in Humperdinck's »Hänsel und Gretel« at the Staatsoper Stuttgart, Music Teacher in Strauss' »Ariadne auf Naxos« in Limoges, Offenbach's »Belle Hélène« at the Hamburger Staats Oper, Schoeck's »Penthesilea« at the Oper Bonn, the Japanese premiere of Zimmermann's »Weisse Rose« at Suntory Hall Tokyo, Mahler's 8th Symphony at the Munich Philharmonic, Braunfels' »Jeanne D'Arc« at the Oper Köln, Prior Walter in Eötvös' »Angels in America«, as well as recordings for a solo album »Songs of the Night« with romantic, modern and avant-garde songs. He is a regular guest on international concert stages, including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Gewandhaus Leipzig, Munich Philharmonie am Gasteig, Lucerne Festival, Cité de la Musique Paris, Casa da Musica Porto, Mozart-Woche Salzburg, Holland Festival, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Philharmonie Köln. In concert, Christian Miedl has been the soloist in major world premières, including: Wolfgang Rihm's »Der Maler träumt« with the Dutch Radio, Ennio Morricone's »Jerusalem« with the Italian RAI, Peter Eötvös' »Atlantis« (new version) with Radio France.
