Matthias Werner

Matthias Werner, born in Nordhausen, trained as an interior designer and then studied architecture at the Bauhaus in Weimar. From 2000 to 2006 he worked as an assistant stage designer at Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz as well as at Theater Nordhausen and the Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken. Since 2004, he has designed his own sets and costumes at Schauspielhaus Stuttgart, Nationaltheater Weimar, Schauspielhaus Zürich, Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, Theater an der Wien/Neue Oper Wien, Schauspielhaus Bochum, Neuköllner Oper, the state theatres in Oldenburg, Braunschweig, Darmstadt, Saarbrücken, Schwerin and Wiesbaden as well as the Ballhaus Naunynstrasse. He has worked with directors Daniela Löffner, Anna Bergmann, Helena Waldmann, Jan Neumann, Hendrik Müller, Neco Celik, Maguerite Donlon, Petra Wüllenweber, Christopher Haninger and Bob Ziegenbalg. Matthias Werner also designs sets for film. At Theater und Orchester Heidelberg in 2022, he is designing the stage set for the world premiere of »Das Licht der Welt« by Raphaela Bardutzky.
