Matthias Erhard

Matthias Erhard, born in 1972, lives in Berlin. He received his education (concert diploma in piano, school music, arranging) at the conservatories in Freiburg im Breisgau, Trossingen and Salamanca. As a freelance musician and composer, he has worked as a choir and orchestra leader, arranger and keyboard player in various bands and music projects. He works as a music journalist for the WDR. At the Berlin University of the Arts he taught improvisation and score playing as a lecturer. In 2009 he founded the art pop band OSCA with the Japanese composer and producer Yuka Otsuki, which performed at the EXPO in Milan, the Berlinale, Deutschlandfest Tokyo and the Berlin Philharmonie, among others. He is active as a theatre composer at theatres throughout Germany (including Deutsches Theater Berlin, Staatsschauspiel Dresden, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, Universität der Künste Berlin and Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch). At Theater und Orchester Heidelberg, he is conceiving the music for the world premiere of »The Light of the World« by Raphaela Bardutzky in 2022.
