Jen-Hsuan Lai-Nelles

Jen-Hsuan Lai-Nelles was born in 1988 in Taipei, Taiwan. At the age of four, her musical life began with the piano, and in high school she added the horn. After graduating from high school, she enrolled in the Bachelor of Music program at Taipei National University of the Arts, majoring in horn. During her studies, she actively pursued chamber music as a horn player and as a répétiteur for various instruments. During concert tours with various youth and professional orchestras, she got to know Europe as well as Asia. She completed her master's studies at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien, Hannover, with Prof. Markus Maskuniitty starting in 2011. She completed an in-depth study in the Master Orchestra Performance (Orchesterzentrum NRW) at the Robert-Schumann-Musikhochschule Düsseldorf with Prof. Joachim Pöltl. During her studies in Germany, Jen-Hsuan Lai-Nelles gained experience as an intern with the Koblenz State Orchestra, as a substitute with the Hildesheim Theater, the Duisburger Philharmoniker, the Deutsches Radio Kammerorchester and the Bochumer Symphoniker. Furthermore, engagements led her to the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, the Staatstheater Mainz, Theater Pforzheim, Theater Freiburg and to the Mahler Chamber Orchestra on the occasion of concerts in Germany and Asia. After a temporary contract in 2017, Jen-Hsuan Lai-Nelles has been a permanent horn player with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the City of Heidelberg since the 2018/19 season.
