Bernhard Mikeska

Bernhard Mikeska studied physics in Heidelberg and Hamburg. After completing his doctorate in theoretical physics on complex systems, he moved to the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg as an assistant director under the directorship of Frank Baumbauer. He works as a freelance director at the Gessnerallee Zurich and the Theater Chur, for the Kunstfest Weimar, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and the Residenztheater Munich, among others. His production »Rashomon :: Truth Lies Next Door« (2006) was invited to the Impulse Festival and performed in Tehran and Krakow, among other places. Bernhard Mikeska has been working with author Lothar Kittstein since »Remake :: Rosemarie« (Frankfurt, 2009) under the label RAUM+ZEIT. In summer 2014, he produced the installation »Das Haus« in a 300-year-old half-timbered house in Spangenberg/North Hesse as artistic director. For Theater und Orchester Heidelberg, he staged, among others, the scenic installation »In deinem Pelz« in the former city prison Fauler Pelz in 2016 and »Der sechste Kontinent« in the elephant house of the Heidelberg Zoo in 2019. Mikeska's theatre is a play with the logic of a consistent space-time continuum and the inner world of perception. His collective RAUM+ZEIT was most recently awarded the Friedrich Luft Prize for the best Berlin production in 2022 for »Berlau :: Kingdom of the Spirits« at the Berliner Ensemble. In 2023, he is developing the VR production »Freud träumt :: Anna O.« with RAUM+ZEIT in a co-production with the Theater und Orchester Heidelberg in the historic lecture hall of the Institute for Theoretical Physics on Philosophenweg. He lives in Berlin and Zurich.
