Sebastián Escobar Avaria

Sebastián Escobar Avaria was born in 1986 in Santiago de Chile. He received musical impulses from his family. He dedicated himself to playing the violoncello, followed by his first lessons with Prof. Edgar Fischer. In 1996, also in Chile, he changed to Prof. Arnaldo Fuentes and in 2001 to Prof. Francisco Pino. In 2004, he received a scholarship from the Bank of Boston to attend the prestigious Menuhin Academy in Blonay, Switzerland. In 2011, he completed his studies with a diploma with Prof. Marcio Carneiro at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold, Germany. This was followed by a Master of Music at the Orchesterzentrum in Dortmund and the concert exam with Alexander Gebert, also in Detmold.  Sebastián Escobar Avaria gained his first orchestral experience in Chilean orchestras such as the Orquesta Juvenil de Chile, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Concepción and the Orchestra Sinfónica de Chile. In Germany, he has performed at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, in the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, the Detmolder Kammerorchester and the Kammerorchester Louis Spohr, among others. Sebastian Escobar Avaria founded the Con fuocco Trio, the Alma Mahler Trio and the Avaria Trio with which he won various prizes and scholarships. Concerts with the ensembles followed at the Funkhaus of the WDR in Cologne or in South Korea. As a soloist, Sebastián Escobar has performed with major Chilean orchestras, such as the Orquesta Sinfónica de Chile and the Orquesta de Cámara de Valdivia. In 2018/19 he was 1st solo cellist with the Staatsorchester Kassel. Since 2015 Sebastián Escobar Avaria has been Deputy Principal Cellist with the Philharmonisches Orchester Heidelberg.
