Raphael Rubino

Raphael Rubino was born in Essen in 1971. He initially studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. After gaining experience as a stage design assistant and stage designer, he decided to study acting in Graz. During his studies, he made guest appearances at the Schauspielhaus Hamburg and the Burgtheater in Vienna, among others. In addition to the Steirischer Herbst in Graz, other venues included the Salzburg Festival and Theater Oberhausen. From 2003 to 2011, he was a member of the ensemble at Theater Bonn, where his roles included Shakespeare's »Othello«, Büchner's »Woyzeck« and Matti in Brecht's »Herr Puntila und sein Knecht Matti«. He has worked with directors such as Einar Schleef, Werner Schroeter, Christoph Mehler, Kay Voges, Wilfried Minks and Johann Kresnik. 
In 2011, he moved to the Hans Otto Theater Potsdam, where he was as Mitch in »Endstation Sehnsucht« (director: Markus Dietz), as Abel Rosenberg in the German-language premiere of »Das Schlangenei« by Ingmar Bergman (director: Niklas Ritter), as Lopachin in the world premiere of »Kirschgarten - Die Rückkehr« by John von Düffel and in the world premiere of »Auferstehung« by Leo Tolstoi (both directed by Tobias Wellemeyer) and as Hans Grill in »Wellen« (director: Barbara Bürk).
In 2014, he played at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden in Phillipp Löhle's »Wir sind keine Barbaren!« (directed by Barbara Bürk). In 2021 he played Peisthetairos in »The Birds« by Aristophanes at the Landestheater Vorarlberg (director: Johannes Lepper). 
From 2018 to 2023, Raphael Rubino was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Staatstheater Nürnberg and appeared in various world premieres by Phillip Löhle, as Tony in »Andi Europäer« (directed by Tina Lanik), Robert Fogel / Martin Schneider in »Am Rand (ein Protokoll)« and as Tot in »Isola« (both directed by Jan Philipp Gloger)
He also appeared as Yevgeny Sergeyevich Dorn in »The Seagull« (directed by Anne Lenk), as Dr. Rank in »Nora« (director: Andreas Kriedenburg), as King Gunther in »Die Nibelungen« (director: Armin Petras), in the world premiere of »Der unsichtbare Reaktor« project by Nis-Momme Stockmann (director: Jan-Christoph Gockel), as Antonio in »Was ihr wollt« (director: Rafael Sánchez) and in the world premiere of Nele Stuhler's »Gaia rettet die Welt« (director: Branko Janack). 
Since the 2022/23 season, he can be seen at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus in »Schuld und Sühne«- allerdings mit anderem Text und auch anderer Melodie« by Barbara Bürk and Clemens Sienknecht after Fjodor M. Dostojewskij in the Kleines Haus.
