Jana Vetten

Jana Vetten is a director in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. She studied directing at the Thomas Bernhard Institut at Mozarteum Salzburg and performance at the Norwegian Theatre Academy Fredrikstad, and was invited to participate in the Körber Studio Junge Regie and the Spieltriebe Festival in Osnabrück. Since 2016, she has worked as a freelance director at venues including Hamakom Theater in Vienna, Staatstheater Mainz, Theater der Stadt Erlangen, NNT Groningen, Thomas Bernhard Institut in Salzburg, Bregenzer Festspiele, Luzerner Theater, Theater im Marienbad in Freiburg, Schauspiel Dortmund, ETA Hoffmann Theater in Bamberg, and Schauspiel Köln. She works at the intersection of contemporary spoken theater, dance, and music. In 2023, Jana Vetten directed the Stückemarkt opening production »Pirsch« at Theater & Orchester Heidelberg; in 2024, she directed »Nora« at the Marguerre-Saal and was awarded the DER FAUST Theaterpreis 2025 in the »Drama Direction« category for her staging. In 2025/26, she directed »We Are Family«, and starting in 2026/27, Jana Vetten will work as resident director of drama at Staatstheater Nürnberg. During the 2026/27 season, Jana Vetten will bring the world premiere of »Babel«, a musical tale of linguistic confusion with texts by Ivana Sokola, to the stage of the Marguerre-Saal in Heidelberg.
