Bernadette Sonnenbichler

Bernadette Sonnenbichler studied directing at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna. After completing her training, she assisted at the Schauspielhaus Graz theatre, where she created her first productions. Since 2008, she has worked as a freelance director at the Berliner Ensemble, Schauspiel Stuttgart, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Staatstheater Nürnberg, Theater Aachen, Schauspielhaus Wien, Schauspielhaus Graz, Residenztheater München and Theater und Orchester Heidelberg, among others. Since the 2016/17 season, she has been a regular in-house director at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus. Since January 2022, Bernadette Sonnenbichler has been head director and part of the artistic direction at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus.
The Steppenwolf was her first work at the Heidelberg Theatre and Orchestra in 2016/17, which ran in the repertoire for four seasons. In 2023/24, she will stage The Journey of G. Mastorna based on Federico Fellini in the Marguerre Hall and Old Hall of the Heidelberg Theatre and Orchestra.
