Jaesung Kim

The tenor Jaesung Kim has been a member of the ensemble at the Theater & Orchester Heidelberg since the 2023/24 season. He initially studied at Changwon National University in South Korea. In Germany, he completed his Master’s degree under Prof. Alexandra Coku at the Würzburg University of Music and subsequently joined the masterclasses of Prof. Stefanie Krahnenfeld and Prof. Burkhard Fritz at the Mannheim State University of Music and Performing Arts. He gained further experience in masterclasses with renowned vocal coaches such as Kirsten Schötteldreier and Ks. Prof. Christiane Iven.

Back in his home country, he has already made his debut in roles such as Duca (»Rigoletto«) and Rodolfo (»La Bohème«), and enjoyed great success as Don José (»Carmen«) under the baton of Elias Grandy at the Junge Oper Weikersheim in the summer of 2021.

This was followed by an engagement at the opera studio of the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, where he appeared in roles such as Malcolm (»Macbeth«), Oronte (»Alcina«), Tybalt (»Romeo et Juliette«), Heinrich the Scribe (»Tannhäuser«), St. Brioche (»Die lustige Witwe«) and the Nazarene (»Salome«).

Jaesung Kim has won numerous competitions and reached the finals of two prestigious competitions – the Concurso Internacional de Canto Alfredo Kraus and the Montserrat Caballé Foundation International Singing Competition – securing one of the coveted places in the finals.

In the summer of 2023, he made his debut at a gala concert at the Copenhagen Opera Festival and at the Lithuanian National Opera, where he once again enjoyed great success in the role of Rodolfo in »La Bohème«.
