The German tenor Stefan Sbonnik is equally successful in concert, baroque repertoire and opera. He has performed a dozen roles on stage, including the title role in Monteverdi's »Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria«, Kalil in Christian Jost's »The Arabian Night«, Remendado in »Carmen« and Bill in Jonathan Dove's »Flight« at the Prinzregententheater in Munich and in Ingolstadt. He took on one of the leading roles in the first performance of the rediscovered baroque opera »Almira« by Ruggiero Fedeli in Kassel in 2013. In recent years he has been able to make a name for himself with baroque repertoire as well as that of the classical period.
After training at the Opera Studio of the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg and the Mozart Academy of the Festival in Aix-en-Provence, he has already sung Danilo in Lehar's »The Merry Widow« as part of the International Opera Academy Bad Orb, and in the course of the 2018/19 season was able to successfully embody the rebel Xaïloum in the operetta »Barkouf« by Offenbach and the singer in »Maria de Buenos Aires« by Piazolla in Strasbourg - a production, which was recorded and broadcast by Arte, and could record further performances as part of a European tour in 2022.
In the 2021/22 season he made his debut as Tamino in a new production of »Die Zauberflöte« at the Landestheater Niederbayern and in the tenor role in a staged production of Bach's St John Passion at the Theater Münster. Stefan will continue to sing both core roles in the future and is preparing his role debuts as Don Ottavio and Ferrando.
At Winter in Schwetzingen, Stefan Sbonnik already appeared in 2018 in the roles of Licomedes and Pheres in »Die getreue Alceste« under the direction of Christina Pluhar.
A busy concert schedule, including with conductors such as Alessandro di Marchi, Werner Erhard or Martyna Pastruszka and orchestras such as the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, the {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna or at the Bayreuth Baroque Festival, as well as various radio recordings, have led to international attention.
