Christian Pohlers

Christian Pohlers joined the Thomanerchor Leipzig in 1999. There he regularly took on choral soloist duties under Thomaskantor Georg Christoph Biller. In 2014 he began studying voice at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig with Prof. Regina Werner-Dietrich. From 2017 he continued his studies in a Master's programme with Prof. Berthold Schmid, graduating with a Master of Music in 2020. He received important musical impulses in master classes with Prof. Rudolph Piernay, KS Prof. Peter Schreier and Prof. Phillip Moll.
Although his musical home is oratorio singing, he is now increasingly devoting himself to the field of musical theatre. He has already appeared in university productions as Monostatos in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and as Loge in Richard Wagner's Das Rheingold. In 2014 he made his debut at the Theater Nordhausen in the role of the Count of Gloria-Cassis in Jaques Offenbach's Die Banditen. He is a welcome guest with leading early music ensembles. He has performed in highly acclaimed staged productions of the Lautten Compagney Berlin under Wolfgang Katschner: In 2019 as Mengone in Haydn's Lo Speziale (co-production with Liebhabertheater Schloss Großkochberg), in 2022 as Evangelist/Petrus in TRUTH! - Bach's St John Passion as Schauprozess (co-production with Hong Kong Singfest), and since 2022 as Polidoro in Domenico Cimarosa's Theatrical Evening Theatre (L'impresario in angustie, co-production with Schloss Großkochberg). Further debuts are scheduled for 2023: among others as Monk in Benjamin Britten's Curlew River (Landesbühnen Sachsen) and as Cores in Reinhard Keiser's Nebucadnezzar at the Festival Winter in Schwetzingen (Theater Heidelberg).
