Gwilym Bowen

Celebrated for the clarity and beauty of his singing and his dynamic stage presence, British tenor Gwilym Bowen performs internationally with orchestras and ensembles of the highest calibre.
His repertoire ranges from Baroque to contemporary, specialising in the music of Bach, Monteverdi and Handel.
His operatic highlights include Damon in »Acis and Galatea« and several roles in »L'Incoronazione di Poppea« and in »Il ritorno d'Ulisse« with the Academy of Ancient Music, the role of Snout in »A Midsummer Night's Dream« and Giove / Eurimaco in »Il ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria« for the Grange Festival, the role of the Father in Hasse's »Piramo e Tisbe« with The Mozartists and for Valletto in »L'incoronazione di Poppea« for Angers Nantes Opéra. Recordings include Bach's Mass in B Minor with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (Hyperion), the St John Passion with De Nederlandse Bachvereniging (All of Bach), the Brockes Passion with the Academy of Ancient Music (AAM) and Concerto Copenhagen (cpo), and the world premiere recording of Johann Ladislaus Dussek's Messe solemnelle (AAM).
Born in Hereford, Gwilym Bowen was a choral student at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated with distinction in music, before going on to study at the Royal Academy of Music. His current engagements include J. S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, St John Passion with the Academy of Ancient Music, Benjamin Britten's Sinfonia, St Matthew Passion with Music of the Baroque, Chicago, and Britten's War Requiem with the Croatian Radio Television Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano.
