Cornelius Borgolte

Cornelius Borgolte is known to Heidelberg audiences for his music for the productions »Pirsch«, »Nora«, and »We Are Family«. In 2026/27, he is composing the incidental music for »Pünktchen and Anton«.

Born in Wattenscheid in 1966, Cornelius Borgolte studied clarinet at the Folkwang-Universität in Essen and subsequently held a permanent position as a clarinetist at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein from 1992 to 2004. Since 2004, he has focused intensively on music for the stage, accepting commissions as a composer and musical director from institutions including the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Schauspiel Frankfurt, and the Odyssey Theatre in Los Angeles. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with various directors, such as Karin Henkel, Jana Vetten, Rafael Sanchez, and Anselm Weber. From 2014 to 2017, he held a professorship at Thomas Bernhard Institut, Universität Mozarteum Salzburg. He has also composed music for radio plays for broadcasters such as BR, SWR, WDR, and DLF. Robert Gerloff and Cornelius Borgolte have maintained an ongoing collaboration since 2013.
